STOMP is a touring theatre show: we use a great many instruments or 'props'
and a large set made of metal truss, corrugated metal sheets and assorted
pieces of scrap metal and plastics. We even carry our own special flooring.
The European touring companies also carry their own lighting and sound rigs.
So when Stomp comes to town, it arrives with two forty-foot containers...
Stomp's entourage consists of 12 performers (although there are only eight
performers on stage at a time, the show is so physically demanding that
we allow for any four performers to be resting at an given time).
In Europe the crew consists of the Company Stage Manager who has overall
responsibility for the Touring Company and is in direct liaison
with local promoters and theatre managements. S/he is also responsible
for company welfare - transport, accommodation, work conditions, hospital
trips (whether through illness or injury), arranging company massage
(which the company needs on a regular basis), rehearsal, publicity
and show calls. The Company Manager generally makes sure
everything is happening as it should!
The Production Manager organises the entire load in and out and
oversees the running of the show backstage. S/he may also 'recce'
theatres in advance to check their suitability for the show.
The Technical Stage Manager is responsible for the show's props and
set, making sure everything is maintained and that there is a
healthy supply of spares (which can entail a great deal of
international shopping). This person also rigs and de-rigs the set.
The Sound Technician prepares the microphones and sound system
and runs the sound mix during the show, whilst the Lighting
Technician (LX) does the same with the lighting rig and mixing desk
