ABOUT STOMP

For almost three decades STOMP has been entertaining audiences all over the world with its unique blend of rhythm, movement, physical comedy and dance. A theatrical experience like no other, STOMP is the event that has showed the globe that even the most ordinary objects like plastic bags, bin lids, brooms and even the kitchen sink can be brought to life in extraordinary ways.

STOMP finds beauty and music in the mundane. It turns brooms into instruments and handclapping into a conversation; the junk and clutter of urban life becomes the source of infectious rhythm and wonder. Eight talented performers take the audience on a journey through sound, where rhythm is the only language.

Created in Brighton, UK, in the summer of 1991, STOMP was the result of a ten year collaboration between its creators, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. Officially premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival it has gone on to tour the globe ever since, with record breaking runs at London’s Royal Festival Hall, La Cigale in Paris and at the Orpheum Theatre in New York City’s East Village.

STOMP has been awarded an Obie, an Emmy (for the HBO special Stomp Out Loud) and an Olivier. In 2003, creator/directors Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell received the Innovator Award at the American Choreography Association in Los Angeles.

STOMP has performed at the Oscars, the Emmys, The Royal Variety Show (3 times) and the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

In 2023, STOMP ended its 29 year run in NYC, after celebrating 25 years, pre pandemic, in 2019.

STOMP continues to tour the world with one UK based company and one US based company.
