Happy New Year from STOMP

2011 marks the twentieth birthday of STOMP: 1991 was the year we put a company together, made a full length (at the time 1 hour) show for the Edinburgh Festival, and got our first bookings. We previewed STOMP at the Sallis Benny Theatre at Brighton Art College in a double bill with Tony Haase, Brighton’s most surreal very tall comic writer/performer. We also previewed at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London, before heading for Scotland, returning to the Bloomsbury and the Hackney Empire in the autumn… that was our first year.

In 1990, however, we did experiment with the STOMP concept, and had the first outing of the show title, in a half hour appearance at the Zap Club (pictured)… it featured some of the people who were to become the original cast. Note the suspension rig in the background was a fishing net in this first incarnation…

We’re looking forward to a busy year, with the US STOMP touring company returning from successes across South America to the USA, a return to Dublin for the first time in many years and STOMP performances in their home town of Brighton this Spring, among many others…
